Lincoln, NE – [September 9th] – The 2024 Bike Walk Summit, Nebraska's statewide gathering of active transportation and trail advocates, planning professionals, community leaders, and citizens to discuss and advance sustainable biking and walking across the state, is happening in Lincoln on September 24th.
Hosted by Bike Walk Nebraska, this year's summit will spotlight Nebraska's role in a national, multi-use trail: the Great American Rail-Trail. The 3,700-mile, cross-country trail includes over 590 miles within Nebraska, with a good portion featuring The Cowboy Trail. When complete, the trail is estimated to generate millions in tax revenue and visitor spending for the state.
National representatives of the Rail to Trails Conservancy are hosting a luncheon for attendees to learn about the project's status and the importance of investing in its completion for Nebraskans and beyond.
Additional sessions will explore strategies for advocating for trail development, identifying ways towns along the trail can flourish, and engaging with local governments to prioritize infrastructure investments.
This year's summit also features conversations on vulnerable road user and distracted driving laws, trail networks, and equitable infrastructure development—all aimed at building a more walkable, bikeable Nebraska.
"At its core, the summit is about empowering Nebraskans to make a difference in their communities," said Cait Dumas-Hein, Associate Director of Bike Walk Nebraska. "Whether you're passionate about improving road safety, expanding trail networks, or creating a more sustainable future, this event helps you join the conversation, gather insights, and make the connections you need to take action."
Join us at the 2024 Bike Walk Summit and join a statewide movement to improve Nebraska's active transportation systems, ensuring everyone—from urban commuters to rural residents—can move about their communities safely and efficiently.
