The second annual Lincoln Crossroads Music Festival scheduled for August 1st through 8th in venues throughout Lincoln with the slogan “See Our Faces. Hear Our Voices.” The program features numerous events, including 12 concerts, a film screening, workshops, jam sessions and a storytelling slam. The Festival, in its second season after a COVID-related cancellation in 2020, highlights the cultural and artistic contributions of Nebraska’s varied cultural groups through creative and conscientious programming. The Festival’s eight days of music, storytelling and workshops feature both local and internationally-touring artists. The inaugural 2019 Festival was the largest classical, folk and world music event of its kind ever to be held in Lincoln. Festival Director Erik Higgins explains that “after the past 18 months marked by isolation, fear and strife, it’s especially important that we come together now and rediscover our connection with and appreciation for one another. The Lincoln Crossroads Music Festival strives to create anenvironment through music and stories where these connections can take place and thrive.” The Festival program includes an evening with Celtic harpist Maeve Gilchrist; an exciting new collaboration with tabla player Sandeep Das, visual artist Samina Hooda and members of Lincoln’s Yezidi community; and multiple other genre- and culture-spanning concerts, including a performance dedicated to victims of COVID-19 and a concert for babies, toddlers and their families. In addition to the formal evening performances, three free after-work concerts will take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 5:15 at the Haymarket Mill Coffee and Tea. The 2021 Festival artist roster includes members of the GRAMMY® winning SilkRoad ensemble, a Guggenheim fellow, a former MTV star and numerous other national and local artists. The venues throughout Lincoln include Turbine Flats, the Sheldon Sculpture Garden, First Plymouth Church, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, South Street Temple, Tower Square Plaza and Cooper Park.
