Lincoln, NE: We’re back, baby!!! Now in our 19th year, the Lincoln Calling music and arts festival is back at full throttle. After a leadership change at the beginning of the calendar year, the nonprofit festival has been focused on curating an event that brings communities together through innovative programming and immersive cultural experiences. Lincoln Calling advances music, art and education through creative community activation; producing events and discussions that uplift underrepresented communities while providing a platform for individuals and community partners from diverse backgrounds to come together and be heard. The goal is to positively impact and shine a light on the arts and culture happening in Lincoln.

This year’s festival will be held September 22-24, 2022 and is presented by NRC Health! After two years of pandemic-related adjustments, festival organizers and downtown venues are excited to be back this year with a full lineup and seven stages in the mix. Venues include: Duffy’s Tavern, The Zoo Bar, Bodega’s Alley and 1867 Bar, as well as our three main stages – the Bourbon Theatre and the outdoor Night Market and Duffy’s Backlot stages.

Headlining the main stages are Pennsylvania pop punk group The Menzingers, performing their 2012 album “On the Impossible Past” as part of their upcoming tour celebrating the album’s 10th anniversary; New Orleans hip-hop/funk/soul outfit Tank and the Bangas, who just released their sophomore LP “Red Balloon” in May; and country songwriter Nikki Lane, who returns this fall with her first LP in five years, “Denim and Diamonds.”

The top of the bill is rounded out by buzzworthy artists Lido Pimienta (Canadian-Chilean pop), Together Pangea (L.A. surf-punk) and Lady Wray (R&B/soul). Plus, the party continues when Ru Paul’s Drag Race queens Roxxxy Andrews and Coco Montrese take the stage for a night of fabulous performances supported by local drag performers. Lincoln Calling’s lineup also boasts a deep roster of regional and local artists, spanning genres as varied as psychedelic rock, hip-hop, folk, blues and indie rock.

In addition to our music offerings is the brand new Tower Square Community Village – a partnership with our friends at the Lincoln Arts Council and presented by Ameritas – which will close 13th Street between P and Q streets and present artist vendors, interactive art installations, nonprofit booths, live music and more. This space will be an all-access, all-ages, family-friendly and free portion of the festival’s Friday and Saturday nights.

“It’s important that we continue to produce an all-inclusive festival, which also needs to include accessibility. We had to utilize Tower Square last year when we pivoted indoor acts outdoors last minute due to Covid. Based off the engagement last year and the many public events that Tower Square hosts year-round, it made sense that we expand on how we can best use it during Lincoln Calling” - Shannon Claire, Lincoln Calling Executive Director

“We are so excited for the opportunity to partner up with Lincoln Calling once again in the fall to bring an “LAF Pop-Up”, a bit of Lincoln Arts Festival’s summer vibes, to celebrate art and music in Lincoln.” - Alexandra McCracken, Lincoln Arts Council Events Manager

Lincoln Calling will also continue its long-standing relationship with Omaha arts advocacy group BFF to bring live art, murals and pop-up performances throughout this year’s festival. Constellation Studios, Live Yes, Kiechel Fine Art and Zipline Brewing Co. will partner and produce a variety of workshops and panel discussions. LC's official beer sponsor Zipline Brewing Co. will bring back its beer garden in the Night Market with festival-exclusive ales (boo-yah!) and will also host a music showcase at Duffy’s Tavern. And Vision Maker Media, a nonprofit organization that creates and shares stories by and for Native Americans, will hold its second Lincoln Calling music showcase. But that’s not all! This year, the festival brings back comedy (!!!) with Nebraska expat Joey Z. The comedian, now a DJ for Austin’s KUTX, brings his successful and colorful comedy act, the “Glo Show,” to Lincoln!

We could stop here, but this is only the first lineup announcement of two for Lincoln Calling 2022. A second wave of over 20 additional acts, including artists, showcases and participants, plus workshops and panels, will be announced in July!

Presale Tickets will be available to Lincoln Calling e-newsletter subscribers on Tuesday, June 14 with a limited quantity available for purchase.
