A Visit to University Place

Close to the University of Nebraska’s East Campus is University Place. Home to Nebraska Wesleyan University, this area gives the small town feeling of Lincoln’s early years. Visit the Lux Center for the Arts, Nebraska Wesleyan University campus, Elder Gallery, and the Alice Abel Arboretum. Browse the shops (bead gallery, ebay shop, a clay studio) and have lunch at MoJava or Michel's Ville Grille.

The Lux Center for the Arts, previously University Place Art Center, represents original work by local and national artists. Exhibition galleries and a gift shop showcase fine art and contemporary crafts. Also included is the Lux Museum, featuring a large doll collection.

Nearby the Wesleyan campus offers a beautiful and relaxing walk through the Alice Abel Arboretum to Elder Gallery. Located in the Rogers Center for Fine Arts, the gallery offers a variety of exhibitions: student, local, national, international. A calendar of scheduled exhibits is available.

Wander back to the 48th Street area, browse the local shops, and stop in for lunch at MoJava, a Lincoln owned coffee shop in University Place for 12 years. Featuring sandwiches, soups and coffee, they offer a full-service espresso bar. Or you could stop at Michel's Ville Grille and step back in time with their old-fashioned soda fountain.
