Millions of people around the world live with type 1 diabetes (T1D), a life-threatening autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults. There is no way to prevent it, and at present, no cure. In August, our family is participating in the 2019 JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes in Sonoma, CA, because we’re determined to help create a world without T1D. Our loved one, Abi, was diagnosed with T1D just after her 1st birthday. She is now a scholarly 9th grader who enjoys reading, art, and participating in track. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure – yet. JDRF Ride isn’t just a bike ride: it’s an experience where hundreds of riders come together from all over the world to make new friendships, enjoy the unparalleled camaraderie of the Ride community and raise money to help end T1D.
