From August 6 - 21 the Serving Hands traveling exhibition of small-scale sculptures created by Nebraska Artists will be displayed in our Live 360° Reading Nook. Serving Hands is a public art project that celebrates the 50th anniversary of Campus Life in Lincoln. There are a total of 51 sculptures which were created for the Serving Hands Project: 39 6-foot sculptures and twelve small-scale models represented in the Traveling Exhibition. All fifty sculptures will be part of an auction at Pinnacle Bank Arena on October 25th, with proceeds benefiting both Campus Life and the participating Artists. For five decades the staff of Campus Life and their volunteers have been faithful servants, investing in the lives of young people as they are well aware that the friends, choices, and beliefs a young person develops will echo throughout their life. It is during these critical teenage years that Campus Life wants to be there to provide guidance and direction for those teens who need it. Campus Life/Youth for Christ has locations in over 120 communities nationwide and is a non-denominational faith-based program that reaches out to teens who range in age from11-19. Campus Life is committed to investing in youth, engaging them in healthy relationships, guiding them to make good decisions positively impacting their school, and ultimately a solid foundation for life. These goals are accomplished by developing a mentoring relationship with a trusted leader, and as a result, students feel valued, heard and loved. Campus Life has 1,500 youth who participate each year at 13 Lincoln schools and currently sees over 800 of them on a regular basis. In the last seven years, the Lincoln chapter has launched 2 additional programs: Parent Life and Juvenile Justice Ministry. Whether pregnant and parenting or jailed in the youth detention center, these programs embrace and encourage young people, by walking alongside them through difficult circumstances. The Serving Hands Public Art Project is a representation of the Campus Life mission: assisting and offering grace and hope to young people in Lincoln and surrounding communities. The concept was chosen to celebrate the 50th year milestone of Campus Life and the heart of service that is shared by so many individuals in the Lincoln community and entire state of Nebraska.
