SCPAC is an 850-acre tallgrass prairie preserve located three miles south of Denton. It is an Audubon Center dedicated to tallgrass prairie conservation. The Center is open seven days a week throughout the year (9-5 M-F, 1-5 weekends), except major holidays. The site features over 600 acres of native tallgrass prairie, plus woodlands, ponds, and natural springs. Miles of hiking trails, open sunrise to sunset, afford opportunities for nature exploration and provide access to beautiful scenic vistas. Of historic interest are mid-19th century wagon ruts from the Nebraska City-Fort Kearny Cutoff to the Oregon Trail. Education opportunities are available through monthly family programs and guided tours for all age groups and interests. The environmentally designed visitor center is 6,400 sq. ft in size, with two rooms available for meetings/receptions. There are 20 tables, 80 chairs, and full kitchen on site for use. (Renter must provide additional chairs/tables/kitchen supplies if needed.) Education Room is available all day until 10 p.m. and the Ethel S. Abbott Grand Prairie Hall is available only during non-business hours.
